Safety on the A5

For several years, the Parish Council has been trying to persuade both the police and National Highways of the need to reduce the speed limit locally, and to address our concerns regarding dangerous driving along the stretch of Watling Street that traverses our parish boundary.

We were delighted to meet Greg Payne from the East Midlands Safety Engineering Team recently, who not only shared our concerns, but also intimated that change might happen within the foreseeable future. He agreed that the most effective way to reduce accidents is to reduce speed and, in the light of two fatal accidents this year, proposed a speed survey.

We hope that that such a survey will result in more signage along the A5 and perhaps a reduction in the speed limit to 40mph.
